As I mentioned at the beginning of My Skincare Routine post, I think that skincare is the third step of where beauty begins – right behind good health and a beautiful soul.

Skincare is very important to me, and over the years, I’ve learned what ingredients work best for my skin.  That’s why I was so excited to hear of a skincare line that offers just the active ingredients, so that you could build your own skincare regimen.  Since you’re paying for just the active ingredients, you’ll save quite a lot money than you normally would for other skincare products in the market; we’re talking about an average of only around $7 per product.

This skincare line is called, “The Ordinary,” by Deciem, where the products are described as “clinical formulations with integrity.”  It’s a no frills line with just simple and honest ingredients.

I wanted to write this post to share my thought process and logic in purchasing the products for the first time, as well as reveal the products that I eventually purchased.  With so many different ingredients to choose from, the choices could seem a little overwhelming – it was for me, at least!

THOUGHT PROCESS ON CHOOSING PRODUCTS

I knew that I had dry, flakey skin with slight textural irregularities.  Also, it wouldn’t hurt to add anti-aging to my list of skin needs too.  Now that I knew what skin needed and had a fairly good understanding of what ingredients worked well for my skin in the past, I looked at the Regiman Guide on the website to plan out the products to purchase.  Here are the five products that I decided on:

From Left to Right: Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution, Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5, Buffet, High Spreadability Fluid Primer, Granactive Retinoid %2 in Squaline

THE PRODUCTS

1. Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution

Glycolic Acid helps with exfoliation, removing dead skin cells and revealing a brighter complexion.  I love using the Pixi Glow Tonic, which also has glycolic acid, so it only seemed natural to give this toner a try!

2. Granactive Retinoid 2% in Squaline

I’m a big fan of using night serums.  Investing in products that specifically target the skin during nighttime has been the biggest game changer for me.  Sunday Riley’s Luna Night Oil is my favorite product to use, and it has retinoids – Vitamin A derivatives that help with faster skin cell turnover and anti-aging.  I thought this product would be perfect to try out as a night serum. (Note: Retinods increase sun sensitivity, so only use during PM to avoid skin exposure).

3. Buffet

I decided to purchase this product based on the anti-aging regimen guide on the website, the reviews, and the fact that it sounded pretty interesting.  After all, it seems to include everything!  Deciem describes the “Buffet” as a multi-technology peptide serum that combines “a comprehensive array of studied technologies to target multiple signs of aging at once.”

4. Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5

Of course, with dry skin, I had to pick up the hyaluronic acid!  Hyaluronic acid retains moisture, keeping the skin hydrated and supple.  This was the very first product that officially introduced me to The Ordinary.  I was googling “hyaluronic acid,” and voila!

5. High-Spreadability Fluid Primer

I tossed this primer in the bag just for fun.  With dry skin, my foundation tends to turn patchy and cakey, but this primer says that it could help makeup spread evenly over the skin and leave “a naturally dewy look.”  These words and the fact that it was only $7.90 was enough for me to click the “Add to Bag” box.

In the future, I may purchase some additional products from the line, most likely the oils.  I didn’t purchase them this time, because I still had my Josie Maran’s 100% Pure Argan Oil to use up.  Once I run out, I think I shall give The Ordinary’s 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Argan Oil a go.

Overall, I can’t wait to try these products out!  I will work on a review post in the next couple months one I experiment a little.  Stay tuned!

The Ordinary’s Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5, the first product that gave me the “101” on the skincare line.

* Note: I purchased the Granactive Retonid 2% on ASOS, and the rest of the products on Beautylish.  This post is not sponsored by either companies or Deciem.
