The Inkformant Report: Winter 2018

“It’s still bright outside this evening, which means that winter is ending soon.  I just had a thought.  If The Inkformant left his footprints behind in the snow, they would look like perfect straight lines…”

“I created The Inkformant blog for many reasons… as a creative outlet, to show my students that you can express yourself with just ink and paper, and tell my story and stories of others… It’s also, well, a way to let my family and friends know that I’m still alive.  They always wonder because I rarely post anything on my social media pages.  Now that I have a blog, it forces me to stay updated.”

“Some hearts are just harder to see, but that doesn’t meant that they don’t exist.”

“We have a (working) email now!”

“There was a little girl who explained how her week went with doodles!  Thought it was only natural that a doodle blogger should do the same.  I did this two weeks ago (the week after MLK day), and here’s how that week went…

Saturday/Sunday: It was a 3-day weekend, so I felt pretty relaxed.

Monday: Took decent blog photos.  A productive Dawn is a happy Dawn!

Tuesday: We were about to have a meeting with our state senator to talk about the school district change, so I had my serious face on.

Wednesday: Went to see the LAIKA Evening for Educators event, so I was enchanted by all the LAIKA behind the scenes magic.

Thursday: Worked with one of my staff on a maternity leave plan and was sadden to see the realities of our FMLA system.  We are one of the only three countries in the world that does not offer paid maternity leave to new mothers (except for a few states).  It was a hard thing to do as a supervisor to ask the staff to take some time unpaid.

Friday: I was simply looking forward towards the weekend!

“Coffee, doodles, and midcentury furniture.”

“Just something that has been on my mind… if The Inkformant and I were to ride bikes together, I would need to put him in the front basket.  Without arms, he can’t really hold onto me or take the wheel.”

“Mom’s fish sauce ratio is as easy as 1:2:2:3! New recipe #ontheblog”

“If The Inkformant world had a periodic table of elements, it would simply look like this.”

“George Balanche’s The Nutcracker ballet is so beautiful and magical!  I would to see the ballet each year as a new holiday tradition, or at least listen to the soundtrack if I can’t go.  If I’m going to make this a new holiday tradition, then I must whip out a comics retell of the story with The Inkformant someday!  I already have some roles in mind… There would be a mouse doodle as the mouse king, me as the Sugar Plum Fairy (It’s my only chance of being casted for the role, after all), and The Inkformant as everyone else! I don’t think I can create the comics this year, but hopefully by December of next year, there will be ‘The Nutcracker: A Doodle Retell’ somewhere on the website.  In the meantime, wishing everyone the happiest of holidays!”
