Like a lot of people, I rely on coffee to start my day. However, I’ve been trying to reach for more tea instead. I find that matcha gives me the same “zing” that coffee does, which makes it a suitable alternative. Plus, it’s packed with antioxidants, fiber, chlorophyll, and vitamins.
I often prepare matcha each morning in the traditional way – with the bamboo whisk and hot water. It’s lovely, but summer time calls for iced drinks. Alas, I must find a way to make iced matcha!
Iced coffees and cold brews are popular summer choices for me, but the following shaken iced matcha recipe is quickly becoming my new favorite way to start the day during the summer. It’s so quick and simple too!
INGREDIENTS
Matcha powder
Water
METHOD
- Fill up a mason jar (or cocktail shaker) of desired amount of water.
- The night before, I usually fill up a pint size mason jar with approximately 10 oz. of water and chill it overnight. That way, I can still get a cold matcha without using ice.
- Add desired amount of matcha powder to the water.
- I often hear that a good ratio of tea for most people is 1/4 teaspoon of matcha powder per 6-8 oz. of water. It’s up to your taste. I like my tea strong, so I do add quite a bit more matcha powder to the mix.
- Place the lid back on the mason jar or cocktail shaker, and shake it all up until the mixture is evenly distributed.
- There should be lovely foam that forms on top of the drink.
- Enjoy and conquer the day!
